Obituary of A. Shearer Simonton
A. SHEARER SIMONTON, 71, passed away surrounded by her family at Knox Center in Rockland on August 5, 2011 after a long illness. She was born in Bucksport on July 24, 1940, the fourth child of Floyd B. and Eula Mae Craft Hooper. She attended Rockland schools where she was active in basketball and Glee Club and singing in Kippy Karnaval presentations, graduating in 1959. She married Raymond Simonton on June 13, 1959, then attended and graduated from Golden Beauty School. She worked as a hairdresser at various nursing homes in Portland and was a waitress at Vallee’s Restaurant for 10 years.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Donald J. Hooper. She is survived by two sisters, Audrey H. Payson and her husband Albert of Rockland and Eula “Midge” Grimes of South Waterboro; three brothers, Ralph Hooper and wife Betty Lee of Rockland, Perry Hooper and wife Kathy of Hope, Maine and Florida and Charles Hooper of Auburn, Maine; her sons, Dale R. Simonton of Saco, Steven E. Simonton and partner Mark Brooks of Lewiston, Jeffry A. Simonton of Scarborough; five grandchildren, Devin Simonton, Emily Simonton, Avery Simonton, Natalie Simonton, Jack Simonton; many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 11th at Rockville Cemetery in Rockport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice House, 22 White Street, Rockland, Maine 04841. On-line condolences may be offered to the family at www.directcremationofmaine.com.
