Obituary of Charles Lyle Lanigan
CHARLES LYLE LANIGAN, beloved husband, precious father and grandfather and friend, died unexpectedly September 6, 2011 after battling cancer with courage and dignity. Lyle was born in Baileyville on April 7, 1929 to William G. and Mildred L. Lanigan. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1947 and served in the US Navy for 11 years. He worked at St. Croix Paper Company until 1976 when he became an owner of Jed’s Hardware where he remained until his retirement.
Lyle was active in local government serving on the town council and BUD member. He was a member of W.T. Wren Post #23 Legion for 57 years. He was an avid lover of the outdoors which he enjoyed through hunting, fishing, gardening and his tree farm. His kind and generous spirit was shared with his friends and family.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 49 years, Catherine E. Lanigan. Lyle is survived by his devoted wife and angel, Gloria R. Lanigan. Also surviving are his son Charles F. and Cathy Lanigan of Beaufort, SC; his son Dexter L. and Jo-Ann Lanigan of Chalfont, PA and his daughter Brenda A. and Michael Delaney of Charlestown, NH. Also survived by his extended family, Edward and Susie Richard of Baileyville, Pam Richard of Old Town, Sandy and Andy Litcher of Portland, Marion and John Wyss of Lopez, WA; a brother-in-law Raymond and Mary Gibouleau of Old Town; his brother William “Fred” and Norma Lanigan of Baileyville and sister Melva and Earl Mushroe of CT; grandchildren Julie and Chris Amos, Dexter and Jamie Lanigan, Daniela Lanigan-Yonce, Chuck and Daniella Lanigan, Chris Lanigan and Tailei Lanigan. Lyle had 16 great-grandchildren and 11 grandchildren by his extended family. He left very special friends who were very important in his life, Norm Richard, Rita McLaughlin and Jeff Pratt of Baileyville, Loring Stanhope of Robbinston and Larry Chandler of Lincoln.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Woodland Cemetery. Services are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, Belfast
