Obituary of Edwin Kyle
EDWIN D. “NED” KYLE JR., 80 years old, passed away at Anderson Inn, Camden on Sunday, September 11, 2011 after a long illness. Ned was predeceased by his mother, Anne Jordan Kyle, his father, Edwin Dewees Kyle, daughter, Amelia Wingate Kyle and brother, Robert Johnston Kyle. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edith Rogers Kyle; two sons, Edwin D. Kyle III and his wife Jennifer Harris of Evanston, Illinois, Lee Halsey Kyle and his wife, Joyce Hollander Kyle and their two sons, Jeremy and Emmett of Arlington, Virginia and his sister, Anne Kyle Tyler of Chester, Maryland. Ned is also survived by a nephew, Robert J. Kyle of Wilton, Connecticut.
Ned graduated from Holderness School, attended the University of Virginia and graduated from Bloomfield College. He also took numerous graduate courses in management at the University of Chicago. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955.
Ned’s professional career began with the American Can Company where he served in a managerial position for 14 years. He continued in sales and marketing with life care facilities in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Naples, Florida. Ned’s volunteer fundraising efforts began with the Naples YMCA where, while serving as a member of the Board of Directors, he co-founded the Annual Boat Auction and was director of the Annual Tennis Tournament. Ned and Edie moved to Maine in 1995. He then joined the Board of Directors of the Penobscot Bay YMCA and founded its annual boat auction, recently named The Ned Kyle YMCA Boat Auction. In addition, Ned volunteered his time with Literacy Volunteers of America and the Rockport Booster Club.
Ned was an avid tennis player. He also enjoyed extensive national and international travel with Edie, gardening and creative writing.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no service and interment will be private.
