Obituary of Julia Holt Bradford

Julia Holt Bradford, 100, of Belfast, died on September 16, 2011, at Harbor Hill Center. She was born in Springfield, MA. on November 21, 1910 but lived most of her life in Portland and Falmouth Foreside, Maine. She was the daughter of Harrison Jewel Holt and Helen Clifford Holt. She graduated from the Waynflete School in Portland in 1928 and Vassar College in 1932. Julia worked for many years as a Social Worker for the Maine State Department of Health and Human Services. She was predeceased by her daughter Helen “Beeba” Bradford and two sisters Helen Emerson and Francis Smithwick. Surviving family includes her son Cary Bradford, his wife Happy of Belfast, three daughters, Ann Bradford de Cifuentes and husband Julio of Arlington, MA, Julie B. Wheeler and husband Derek of Yarmouth. ME and Betsy H. Bradford of Falmouth, ME. She also leaves two grandchildren, Madeleine and Benjamin Wheeler of Yarmouth, ME. as well as her very dear friend Stella Walsh. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Julia was an avid tennis player and won many tournaments at the Portland Country Club in Falmouth where she was a member for many years. In 1998, she moved to Belfast, Maine to be close to her son and daughter-in-law and lived independently until September 2010 when she fell and broke her arm and moved to the Harbor Hill Center. A private service will be held at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Falmouth, Maine. Arrangements under the care Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
