Obituary of Eugene White
Eugene “Gene” H. White, 62, of Unity, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 19th. Gene was born in Houlton on March 1, 1949 to Herman and Catherine (McAvoy) White. He married his high school sweetheart Donna M. Cummings on July 18, 1970. Five days later he was drafted into the U. S. Army and was deployed to Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received while serving his country, and received an honorable discharge. They moved to Unity in 1971 where Gene graduated from Unity College with a degree is Forestry. His love for the woods began at an early age working alongside his dad in the woods in and around Benedicta. There he learned lifelong lessons and skills that served him greatly, especially after losing a limb in his early 20s and depending on an artificial leg the rest of his life. His love for his family, his passion for working in the woods, and the care he gave to his friends made his life complete.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Donna White of Unity; daughters and sons-in-law Carmen & Kent Moshier of Cushing, Regina Anne & Shawn Holland of Gorham and Melissa & Rocy Pillsbury of Thorndike; grandchildren Dustin, Elizabeth, Liam, Richard and Maxximus; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary & James Ingalls of Greene, Anne Regina Thomas of Decatur, GA, Christine & Carroll Boyd of Cheverly, MD and Angela & Robert Hanson of Bangor; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special cousins Steve and Dean.
Loved ones who passed before him are his parents, brother Timothy White and three grandsons, Joshua, Marcus and Brydon White.
A celebration of Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 6-9pm at Rita’s Catering and Event Center, 327 Main St (Rt 202/9) in Unity. Gene was a generous and giving man, always helping those in need.
