Obituary of Clayton Pembroke Littlefield
CLAYTON PEMBROKE LITTLEFIELD, 91 of Montville, passed away on November 9, 2011 in Penobscot. He was born on May 11, 1920 at his family farm on Frye Mountain to Charles Lorenzo and Mary Ann (Carter) Littlefield. Clayton completed three years of high school before having to halt his education in order to work to help support the family through hard times. In October 1941, he entered the Army and was sent overseas to the Pacific Theatre. He participated in conflicts at Guadalcanal, the northern Solomons and the southern Philippines before mustering out of the service in July of 1945. On July 28, 1945 he married Pauline Norma Perkins. They settled on their farm on Halldale Road in Montville where they completed many aspects of farming the 300+ acres of land. They raised poultry for many years retiring in 1972 to the house they built together at the “top of the hill”. In June of 2001 at his grandson’s graduation, Clayton was awarded his high school diploma. He was a member of Marsh River Masonic Lodge in Brooks as well as Knox Ridge Baptist Church.
Clayton was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Pauline, in May of 2011; his brother Thelland, Albert, Edwin “ Ned”, Don and sister Blanche (Littlefield)Bennett. He is survived by his brother Royce Littlefield of Jackson; his sons, Hervey and Stephen; grandsons Joshua and Joel; granddaughters Regan, Amber and Courtney as well as several great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 15th at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 16th at Knox Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Halldale Cemetery, Montville.
