Obituary of Donald T. Curtis

DAMARISCOTTA -- Donald T. Curtis, 90, passed away on Dec. 3, 2011, at his home in Damariscotta. Don was born on June 13, 1921, in Boston, Mass. Don grew up in Marblehead, Mass., and attended Marblehead schools, graduating in 1939. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, and participated in the liberation of Europe. Like most of our Greatest Generation, he was very proud of his service, but humble to the end. Following his discharge in December, 1945, Don met and married Gertrude ('Trudi') York of Salem, Mass. They had just celebrated 65 years of marriage this past Nov. 10. Don worked in the Boston area for most of his career as an architectural draftsman. He retired in 1986. Then, in 1990, following a long time desire, he and Trudi moved to Damariscotta where they spent many wonderful years with family and new friends. Don was always helping Trudi with her pottery career and spent many an hour packing boxes and moving goods from show to show. Don was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was classy, honest, polite, and a good man. He enjoyed volunteering at Miles Memorial, and always liked shopping at the Hospital's rummage sale. He leaves his wife Trudi in Damariscotta; a son Mark and wife Diane of Augusta, a daughter Jan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughters, Michelle (Curtis) Delisle and husband Jeff of Manchester, and Jenny (Curtis) Feeley and husband Kurt of South Portland; and four beautiful great-grandchildren. A celebration of Don's life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the 1812 Farm, 1297 Bristol Rd., Route 130, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Miles & St. Andrews Home Health and Hospice P.O. Box 417 Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538
