Obituary of Joseph D. Levasseur
Joseph D. Levasseur, 63 of Belgrade, passed away at Togus VA Medical Center after a brief battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease.) He was born on May 12, 1948 in Waterville, the son of Roch and Rosanna (Burns) Levasseur. Joseph graduated from Waterville High School class of 1966 and received a degree in Computer Science in 1991 from University of Maine at Augusta. Joseph was a Vietnam veteran serving from 1967-1969, then served his country in the National Guard from 1969-1974. After his military service, he worked for CMP, was owner of Direct Discount Sales, and also worked for the Census in 2000, most recently with Togus Veterans Administration which he retired from in June of this year. A large part of Joseph’s life was the Boy Scouts of America where he held the position of Eagle Scout. He was Kennebec Valley District Training Commissioner receiving Distinguished Service Awards, Silver Beaver, Member of the Order of the Arrow, member of Madockawanda Lodge Pine Tree council, and former Scout Master troop 453 Belgrade. Memberships also include VFW post 887, Augusta, Disabled American Veterans, and the Paralyzed Veterans. Joseph loved the outdoors which was reflected in his master gardening skills, his love of camping, fishing, hunting. He also enjoyed cooking, reading, watching TV and his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots games.
He was predeceased by his parents and infant daughter Sharon. Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years Kathy (Scribner) Levasseur; sons Jeffery Levasseur and wife Tiffany of Belgrade, and Keith Levasseur of Sanford; siblings Rock Levasseur and wife Paulette of Bridgewater, Mass, Joan Poulin and husband Armand of Montpelier, Vermont, Betty Biggins and husband Michael of Milton, Delaware, Terry Levasseur of Buxton, and brother in law Robert Webster and wife Freddonna of Windham; grandson Bryce Joseph, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his yellow lab “T.”
Celebration of Life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 16th with burial and Military honors at Maine Veterans Cemetery Augusta, Maine.
