Obituary of Joseph J. Salatka
JOSEPH J. SALATKA of Northport, went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife Rita on December 25th, 2011. He was helped on his journey with his loving family at his side. Joe was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on July 8, 1933. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He drove truck for St. Johnsbury many years and won awards for his truck driving skills. He and his family lived in Massachusetts most of their life until he and his wife went to Old Orchard for a number of summers and eventually moved there. In 2008 he and his wife, Rita, moved to Northport to live out the remainder of their lives close to their daughter, Donna. Joe had a number of interests and hobbies and was very good at all of them. He loved fishing, playing cards, horseshoes, wood working and building many different things for the yard. Bowling was his passion. He bowled for many years, and it was seldom he missed a chance to bowl. Joe was a very kind and giving man always willing to help others as he often did.
He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Rita; his mother and father and two brothers. He is survived by his son, Joseph, of Rumford; daughter Donna and partner Dawn of Northport. He leaves behind nieces, nephews and many, many friends whom he dearly loved.
