Obituary of Esther Louise Dam
Esther Louise (Spencer) Dam died peacefully with her family around her on January 21, 2012. A veteran of the Vietnam War, she was known for her loving and kind spirit and her desire and ability to stand up for what was right. Esther loved her family, and continued to take care of them with her actions even when she could no longer communicate with words. She will be missed dearly by everyone that ever had the chance to meet her and the world will miss her laughter. She was a life member of Arbutus Chapter #19, Order of the Eastern Star, where she held numerous offices including Past Worthy Matron, and was honored to be selected as District Deputy Grand Matron of District # 12 for the past two years.
She is preceded in death by her parents George A. Spencer and Amy C. Spencer (Carter), and a grandson. Esther is survived by her husband Rexford Dam, her children, Kimberly Spencer of Fort Collins, CO, and Jessica A. Briggs and Daniel of Old Town, ME, Brandie Cardenas and Juan of Highlands Ranch, CO, and her grandchildren Kendra Layne, Tatiyanna Spencer, Brian Welch, Elyannah and Noah Briggs. She is also survived by her brother George “Albert” Spencer, and Linda of Phoenix, Arizona, sister Leona Billing and Pete of Palermo, ME, brother Chuck of Walter, OK and Nina of Knox, and brother Ken Spencer and Wilma of Tabernacle, NJ; and her nieces and nephews, Leeann Mosley of Gardiner, ME , Wilson Spencer of New Hampshire, Mistayn Tibbett and Clayton of Thorndike, ME, Scott Spencer of Knox, ME and Wyatt Spencer and Mariah of Beeville, TX; grand nieces and nephews Brooke, Michael, Oliver, Ailiayn, and Eben; and great-grandniece DeYanna.
Her family extends a heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Togus VA Hospice Unit for their wonderful and compassionate care of Esther during her last days. A celebration of Esther's Life will be held on Saturday, Janurary 28th at 3pm. at Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast to be followed by food and conversation at the Belfast Masonic Hall near Waldo County General Hospital.
