Obituary of Hazel H. Redmond

HAZEL H. REDMOND, 90, passed away March 9, 2012 in Skowhegan at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home. She was born September 8, 1921 in Norridgewock, the oldest child of Clarence E. Damren and Lena (Chase) Damren. She graduated from Norridgewock High School, Class of 1938. She married Leo J. Redmond in August of 1939. He passed away February 1, 2002. Hazel worked at Russakoff's Jewelers. She then co-owned The Dairy Treat in Madison with her sister-in-law,Geraldine Damren. She did private care for families in Skowhegan and later they owned Redmond's Tack and Grain in Norridgewock. Her family, horses, cooking and gardening were her greatest joys. She and her husband were assistant leaders of 4-H Riding Club. They were also judges at horse shows. They spent many happy years on Thurston Hill with their horses. Her community of friends and their horses was large and extensive. Hazel was an amazing cook, and along with entertaining her large family, she was always cooking or baking for her local grange in Norridgewock. Hazel had four children, Leo J. Redmond, Jr and wife Maureen of Connecticut, Eric Redmond and wife Margaret of Florida, Claire B. Luce whose husband, Herbert James Luce, passed away January 21, 2010, Timothy A. Redmond and wife Robin of Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. One of eight children, she was predeceased by her sisters, Ruth Bickford, Claire Tewksbury; her brothers, Paul Damren and Harold Damren. She is survived by her brothers, Richard Damren and wife Bunny of Norridgewock, Clarence Howard Damren "Peanut" and wife Irene of Norridgewock and Francis Damren and wife Violet of Madison; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Damren and Carolyn Damren, both of Madison, along with many nieces,nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the people who came to visit her faithfully while she was at Cedar Ridge. To the staff at Cedar Ridge and to Cindy and Sherry from Beacon Hospice, we thank you for caring for our beloved Mom, grandmom, aunt, sister and friend. She blessed so many lives and will be greatly missed. Services will be announced at a later date.
