Obituary of Avis Emerald Nickerson Metcalf

Avis Emerald Nickerson Metcalf passed gently into God’s arms on March 18, 2012 at Waldo County General Hospital. She was born April 4, 1944, in Belfast, the daughter of Elmer and Georgie (Daggett) Nickerson. She was a very giving person who would give you her coat even if she was cold and often tried to share her food with the nursing staff while at Tall Pines or in the hospital. She was known as feisty, stubborn and fierce which became quite instrumental in helping her to be resilient in life. She loved nature and animals, she also loved Elvis and his music. She was known as a non-complex woman who loved her family and raising her daughter Niki. Avis is predeceased by her brothers Raymond and Byron Nickerson. Avis is survived by her daughter Niki Metcalf of Westbrook; her brother, Harland Nickerson of Belfast; her sisters, Gena Shute, Teresa Crosby, Edith Nickerson, June Russ and her husband, Ulmer, Dorothy Moody and husband, Chet; many nieces and nephews. There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, March 24th from 10 AM - 12 PM for people to share their memories of Avis, all are welcome. Flowers may be sent to Riposta Funeral Home for the service on Saturday. Donations may be made In liue of flowers in Avis's name to Waldo County Hospice, care of Waldo County General Hospital, 118 Northport Ave., Belfast, ME 04915. Graveside service will be held at the Morrill Village Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, ME.
