Obituary of Dale Dennis Stubbs
Dale Dennis Stubbs died April 14, 2012, at the inpatient hospice unit at Togus. He was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Brownsville, Ore. After graduating high school, Dale served in the Army Air Forces during World War II from July 1940 to November 1945. While in the military, he married the love of his life, "Bing" Lillian Mcallister. They shared 50 years together and raised three daughters. Once home from the war, Dale went to work at American Optical as an optician. He retired after 25 years of service. After retirement, Dale could be found reading Westerns, and hunting and fishing in the Maine woods. Dale was also known by many as a jack-of-all-trades.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bing, and a very close friend, Floyd Reynolds. Dale is survived by his three daughters, Kim Ingraham and husband Scott of Augusta, Tina Black and husband William of Bowdoinham, and Leigh Cotnoir and husband Scott of West Gardiner. Dale had seven grandchildren, Felicia Ingraham, Dalene Black, Zachary Black, Jason Black, Courtney Cotnoir, Reid Cotnoir and David Cotnoir. He had two great-grandchildren, Jacob Godbout and Serria Brown. He will be missed by his special friends Bud Smith and Alice Chicoine.
There will be a memorial held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Following the service, Dale's cremains will be sent to Oregon, where he will join his wife, Bing, at their family plot. The family would like to give a special thanks to the inpatient hospice unit at Togus for the loving care they gave during Dale's final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dale's name can be made to VAVS Hospice Unit Volunteer Services Department of Veteran Affairs, 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Direct Cremation of Belfast.
