Obituary of James Edward Monhart

LINCOLNVILLE James Edward Monhart, 92, died April 19, 2012 at Pen Bay Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1920 in Chicago, IL, the son of George and Rose Monhart. James was married to Edna (Kvidera) in 1942. He was a WWII Veteran assigned to the 1st Combat Camera Unit with the 15th Air Force. He was a longtime Commercial Photographer in Chicago and Framingham, MA. One of his most famous photos was that of Marshal Tito on his white horse in Yugoslavia. Many of the black and white photographs at The Kennedy Library are photos that he processed. He enjoyed watching his son in little league and pony league. He enjoyed smoking a cigar and getting together with his friends everyday at Drake’s Corner Store. James is predeceased by his parents; Jerry Lesak, brother; and Frank Monhart Jr., Cousin. He is survived by Edna his longtime wife of almost 70 years, his daughter Jane Monhart, Union, ME; his son Curt Monhart (Bonnie) of Ada, MI. Two grandchildren, Kristen Nelhart (Paul), Chicago, IL, Katie Monhart and her fiancé Matthew Palas, Chicago, IL; Two Great Grandchildren, Hudson Nelhart and Parker Palas and several Nieces and Nephews. He will be greatly missed by his best dog friend Murphy who loved to go on walks with him and sit on his lap. A memorial service will be scheduled at a date in June. Donations may be made in James’ memory to the Lincolnville Fire Department, 470 Camden Road, Lincolnville Center, ME 04850 and to the Camden/Rockport Animal Rescue League, 146 Camden Street, PO Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856.
