Obituary of Wentworth Eugene Durkee

WENTWORTH EUGENE DURKEE, 98, died May 9, 2012 at a Rockport hospital. He was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on March 20, 1914 the son of George A. and Jennie (Jenkins) Durkee II. After attending school for agriculture, he farmed for several years, then did some lobster fishing and then worked as an estate caretaker until his retirement. He enjoyed hard work, cutting wood right up until his 90th birthday. He loved hunting, especially duck hunting, and salt water fishing and boating. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Edna (Gray) Durkee and three brothers. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Manford and Patricia Durkee of Spruce Head, four brothers Robert and his wife Eleanor Durkee of Portland, Gerald and Marian Durkee of Rhode Island, Douglas Durkee of Hope, George and Adrian Durkee of Islesboro; his grandchildren, Randy, Manford Jr., Leonard, Kevin, Cheryl, Lawrence, Lorry and Edith; 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Fred and Betty Mosley. Services on Islesboro will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home 182, Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
