Obituary of Joanne Hammar

JOANNE HAMMAR, 81 passed away September 6, 2012 at Boardman Cottage on Islesboro. She was born January 11, 1931 in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Carl and Gwendolyn (Allen) Hammar. She graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio and received her Masters Degree from the University of Rhode Island. Joanne taught at Cushing Academy in Massachusetts for many years. She was active on Islesboro in community life prior to her move to Boardman Cottage. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, Carl Allen Hammar. Joanne is survived by her brother, Peter Hammar and wife Mary Anne of Florida; sister-in-law Cynthia Hammar of Florida; nieces and nephews, Gifford Hammar and Julie Vice. A family memorial will be planned for the summer of 2013. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in her memory to Boardman Cottage, 131 Main Street, Islesboro, ME 04848.
