Obituary of Royce Glendon Littlefield
ROYCE GLENDON LITTLEFIELD, 85 of Jackson, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at his family homestead in Jackson, Maine. Royce was the youngest of seven children born to Maryanne Carter Littlefield and Charles Lorenzo Littlefield on March 19, 1927 in Freedom. He moved to the family homestead when he was three years old. He grew up on the Littlefield farm which had been in the family since 1832. Many hard times came his way during his early years but all were made easier when he married his life-long partner and friend, Elva Ruth Porter on August 27, 1950.
Royce and Elva had two daughters, Marion Jean and Kathryn Darlene. They also loved and nurtured a niece, Darlene Roberts Hineman, as though she was their own.
Royce had a great love and appreciation of all living creatures. Dogs were the great providers of companionship, love and humor to Royce. As a young farmer, horses were not only his work companions but also a source of friendship and intelligence.
Anyone who knew Royce would gladly remember him as smart, creative and humble. He would always try to help solve any mechanical problem, not only as a challenge, but as a learning experience to share down the road with his grandsons and sons-in-law. We all had a lot to learn from his life lessons. Those lessons were not put upon us but were there to draw from if ever need be.
He will be greatly missed by his eldest daughter, Marion “Jeannie Bryant” LeClere, her husband David and her children, Scott and Christopher Bryant, Scott’s wife Cherdelle and their children Kyia and Allura, all of Jackson. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Arnold Bryant in 2001.
He also will be loved and missed by his youngest daughter, Kathryn D. Kimball, her husband Kenneth, their son Jeremy Charles Kimball, his wife Tanya and Jeremy’s children, Michela Clair and Gunner Royce all of Temecula, CA. Also his granddaughter Wendy Knight and her sons Josh, Jason and two great-great-granddaughters, Madison and Maci all of Carmel, Maine.
Royce has many special dog family members who will surely miss him – Lexi, his little Schnauzer granddaughter, Foxy his Papillon, Ben his Springer buddy, Artimus his black Lab friend and his own dogs, Abbie, a black Lab and Lucy his Springer which were rescue dogs. He saved several Katria dogs and would have saved more if possible.
We will love you forever – Elva, Jeannie, Kathy and their families.
Graveside services will be held at the Cates Cemetery in Jackson at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 22nd.
A Memorial Tree was planted for Royce
