Obituary of Nettie Jewell Turner
Nettie Jewell Turner, 88, of Washington, Maine, passed away early on Christmas day in Augusta. She was born December 10, 1924 in Hiseville, KY, to Edwin Lewis Turner and Nancy Olive (Byrd) Turner. The family moved to Azalia, Indiana in 1928, and Nettie grew up on a farm there and later in Columbus, Indiana. She was a graduate of Columbus High School and worked for Hamilton Corporation during and after World War II.
She married Wilford E. Turner of Washington, Maine in 1950 and together they travelled the United States and to foreign countries during his career in the Air Force. She was the co-owner of Turner’s Store in Washington, Maine, and later Turner’s Garage. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, two sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her brother Roger Turner, of Columbus, Indiana, two daughters, Debra J. Turner of Richmond, Maine, Janie Turner of Augusta, a son, David L. Turner and his wife Eileen, of Washington, Maine; two granddaughters, Abbey E. Turner of Farmingdale and Molly K. Turner of Washington, one great granddaughter, Alice R. Turner.
She was a kind and cheerful soul with an inner strength that was an inspiration to her family through the frequent moves and often chaotic times of our lives. Her gentleness and quiet determination were the glue that bound our family together through all the years.
Please, no flowers or contributions. A service will be scheduled at a later date. Burial will be in the spring at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
