Obituary of Albert Andrew Wargo

Camden — Albert “Al” Andrew Wargo, 83, of Camden, passed away peacefully on Feb. 10, 2013 at Pen Bay Medical Center. Al was born in McKeesport, Pa. on Sept. 30, 1929 to Charles and Margaret Wargo. He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1947 and continued on to serve in the United States Coast Guard from 1948 until he was honorably discharged in 1954. In 1951 he married Carolyn Keizer, they were married for 21 years and had two children together. Al worked at the steel mills in Pennsylvania and retired in Maine after 30 years. He enjoyed bingo, bowling, movies and major league sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Boston Red Sox. He was also a member of The Second Congregational Church in Warren for many years and became great friends with the minister at the time, Robin Honaker. Al was a devoted father and grandfather. He looked forward to his Sunday dinner and visits at his daughter Linette’s house where he could spend time with his family playing cards and socializing. He will be missed by all who knew him, his sense of humor and his positive outlook on life. The last two years of Al’s life were happily spent at Windward Gardens in Camden. Al is survived by his children Alan Wargo of South Carolina and Linette Whitney and husband Craig of Warren. His brother Thomas Wargo and wife Bernie of Fla., his sister Margie Matta and brother Basil Wargo of Pennsylvania. His grandchildren Eric Wargo of South Carolina, Andrew Wargo and wife Krista of South Carolina and Calli Peters and husband Nick of Warren. Al also had four great-grandchildren; Lynn Ray, AJ, Zachary, Grayson and several nieces and nephews. Al was also very close with his friends Francis Bates and Leonard Hook. At this time there will be no services. Per Al’s request he will be buried at sea by the United States Coast Guard in Rockland. A celebration of Al’s life will be held at a later date so that his family can travel to attend. Online condolences may be offered to the family at directcremationofmaine.com.
