Obituary of Charlotte Holmes Reynolds

CHARLOTTE (HOLMES) REYNOLDS passed away peacefully on February 15, 2013 at Harbor Hill Center in Belfast at the age of 90 with loving family members present. She was born on June 27, 1922 to Clara and Levi Holmes at the family homestead on Swan Lake Avenue in Belfast, the youngest of nine children and, fittingly, the last to pass away. She lost her loving husband, Mike, after 45 years of marriage in 1989. Her life history included graduating from Crosby High School as salutatorian, class of 1940, and was a member of Daughters of American Revolution; college at Staley School of Speech in Boston and a career with New England Telephone in Belfast. She then married Myron “Mike” Reynolds during the war years in 1944. They settled in Brooks to raise their family. Charlotte and Mike owned a camp at Randall Pond in Brooks which was a refuge of fun and relaxation for over 50 years. After moving to Hampden in 1963, they operated the Highlandette Grocery for 25 years until retirement. Many evenings of Bingo and winter trips to St. Petersburg, Florida were highlights of retiring together. Surviving children are Joyce Davis of Rockport, Joette Fields and her husband Ralph of Frankfort, Myron “Sonny” Reynolds and wife Pamela of Winterport; an infant daughter, Joalene passed away in 1955. Charlotte and Mike adored their eight grandchildren, Michelle Davis of Boothbay, Jennifer (Davis) Kuhn of Brooks and Valicia (Davis) Roy of Bangor. Also Heather (Fields) Relyea of Winterport, Karen (Fields) Comeau of Englewood, Florida and Kelley (Fields) Harmon of Monmouth, Peter Reynolds of Frankfort and Shannon Reynolds of Winterport. Charlotte also enjoyed her 21 great-grandchildren, Maxine, Corinne, Erving, Meradith, Myron, Della, Allyson, Brigham, Erin, Heath, Brosnan, Dalton, Tristan, Lucas, Jacob, Emma, Wesley, Elena, Sara, Owen and Savannah as well as many nieces and nephews. Charlotte loved animals, especially dogs, so memorial donations to Townline Animal Shelter, Baker Road, Belfast, ME 04915 would be appropriate and appreciated. Also her family thanks the Harbor Hill caregivers for their love and attention over the past 3 years. A graveside memorial will be held at Rose Cemetery in Brooks in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast. On-line condolences may be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com.
