Obituary of Marjorie Stewart Weyburn

MARJORIE STEWART WEYBURN 1923-2013 MARJORIE STEWART WEYBURN died peacefully in the morning of 28 February at Madigan Estates in Houlton. A native of Houlton, Marjorie was born 18 May, 1923, the youngest daughter of Byron and Fern Stewart of Houlton, Maine and surviving sister of Vallie Shaw, Pauline McGillicuddy and Ruth Bossie. Marjorie is survived by her sons, Donald Byron Weyburn of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Robert Stewart Weyburn of Byfield, Massachusetts and grandchildren Audra Bennett, Jessica Jackson, Ellen Sofronas, Marianne McFerran and Lauren Weyburn and their families, including seven great-grandchildren. Marjorie married the late Robert O. Weyburn of Macon, Mississippi 2 June 1943 while he served the Army Air Corps on duty at Houlton Air Station. After the close of WWII, he remained on duty with the formation of the U.S. Air Force and he and Marjorie raised their sons at various duty stations. They served at Andrews AFB, Pepperrell AFB, Maxwell AFB, Elmendorf AFB, Langley AFB, Eielson AFB, and Loring AFB from which they retired in 1973. Marjorie was active in the youth programs and Wives Club which supported the life and social demands of families in service, serving President of the Enlisted Wives Club at Maxwell AFB and as hostess of the Teen Club. She also worked at the Elmendorf AFB Dental Clinic from 1962-6, for NASA from 1967-9, and for the Eielson AFB Personnel Office 1969-72. After retirement, they lived in Hodgdon, Maine and owned and operated Ken’s Store. Subsequently, they took up residences at East Grand Lake during the summer and Macon, Mississippi, during the winter. Marjorie and Bob attended Danforth Baptist Church and worked as volunteers at Living Waters Bible Camp. While wintering in Macon, where they had a ranch, they attended Macon Presbyterian Church. After her husband’s death in 2002, she later took up residence at the First Settler’s Lodge in Weston. Memorial service will be held at Danforth Baptist Church, 9 March at 2PM.
