Obituary of Raymond L. McConnell
Raymond Laurence McConnell, 93, of Belfast passed away March 25, 2013 at Tall Pines Nursing Facility. He was born December 19, 1919 in Merrimac, Massachusetts a son of the late Merrett and Daisy (Hoyt) McConnell. Raymond was educated in Merrimac Schools and worked at Westinghouse in Springfield, MA before enlisting in the Army. While in the Army, he served in France and Germany in WWII. He attended Northeastern University School of Engineering. Raymond worked as an Electrical Engineer at Air Force Cambridge Research Lab, first in Cambridge and then at Hanscom Field, Bedford, MA. In 1963 he met and married Elizabeth Stoneham. They lived in Lexington, MA until retiring first to Exeter, NH and then to Durham NH for several years. Finally the coast of Maine called, and they spent the rest of his retirement in Belfast at Penobscot Shores. Raymond loved visiting and discovering his roots in New Brunswick, Canada.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth of Belfast, and three nephews: Mark Stoneham of Galveston, TX, David Stoneham of Amherst, MA and Peter Stoneham of Shutesbury, MA. Raymond was predeceased by his brother Elbert McConnell. “A sweet man, a true gentleman and a sense of humor were all attributed to Ray.”
