Obituary of Michael A. Weinberg

Michael A. Weinberg, 83, of Belfast Maine, died at home, of heart disease on April 23, 2013. He is survived by his wife Janet, sons Benjamin, Andrew, Stephen, his daughter Katherine, and their families. He has three grandchildren Carly, Daniel and Mathew. He is survived by his sister Libby Zurkow, her children Deborah de Benedetti, and Peter Zurkow. Michael graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950. He received a PhD in 1960 from Harvard University where he taught American history and literature. He later taught at Washington University in Saint Louis, Mo, from 1968 – 1984. He received his JD from Washington University in 1975. Michael and Janet moved to Belfast, ME. In 1982 to be closer to their beloved summer home on Gotts Island. He enjoyed fishing and basket making. He worked as a legal assistant for F. Fredrick Romanow attorney of Belfast. He was a Waldo County Hospice volunteer for many years, starting in 1999. Enough thanks can never be given to friends, neighbors and the Waldo County Home Health and Hospice providers, for all the help and support they gave Michael and Janet. The family plans to have a private memorial.
