Obituary of Mary L Poirier

SKOWHEGAN -- Mary L. (Page) Poirier passed peacefully on June 14, 2013, at a local nursing home in Augusta where she had resided since July 2012. Mary was born Sept. 3, 1912, in Marsardis. At the age of 15, she moved to Canaan, where she worked hard on the family farm. She met her husband, Joseph F. Poirier, at the Skowhegan Spinning Mill. They were married Aug. 31, 1941. She was predeceased by her parents, Effie and Joseph Page; her husband, Joseph, in 1981; her son, Charles, in 2000; his son, Johnny; and her brothers, Albert and Vernon. She managed to keep up the family home on South Street until she was 90 years old, painting the whole foundation that year. Then she moved to senior housing in Old Town to be near her daughter Virginia. She continued her social life of playing cards and dressing up for the holidays. She was the Easter bunny at Rite Aid and posed with children to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. She was always ready for a party, no matter how tired she was. She moved to assisted living in Augusta at the age of 99, which was closer to her daughter Norma. She continued to wear her costumes. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia "Ginny" Gallant, and her husband, Robert, of Old Town, and Norma Fitzherbert and partner Gary Benoit, of West Gardiner; grandchildren Darrrell Gallant, of Skowhegan, Cindy Woodard and husband Mike, of Carmel, Deanna Cuculic and husband David, of Columbia, S.C., Amy Fitzherbert, of China, and Jennifer Poirier, of Connecticut; great-granddaughter Nicole Bambury and her husband, Donnovan, of Chicopee, Mass.; and great-grandsons David and John Cuculic, of Columbia, S.C. Per her request, there will be no funeral services. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. June 28 at the Catholic cemetery in Skowhegan.
