Obituary of Carl R. Wharton

RAUGUSTA -- Carl R. Wharton, 77, of Augusta, is gone home to be with the Lord. He died June 18, 2013, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. He was born in Augusta, July 31, 1935, to Alice Wharton and grandmother Maude Alice Wharton. He lived in Maine throughout his life. He inspired his family in many ways with family values, loyalty and love. He loved spending time with family and cherished the time he spent with them. He had a good sense of humor and loved to tease. He met his wife, Barbara Carnes Wharton, and they married March 4, 1961. They started their life together in Augusta. He served his country in the Air Force. He has had many jobs such as Drew Roofing and Quinco Fabrics as a truck driver. They owned and operated a small business on Cony Hill in Augusta, Hillside Used Furniture & Antiques, then ran a home day care business, where he loved caring for the children they took great care of. Most importantly, he served his family as husband and father of four, starting many family traditions that have been passed down through the generations. Carl put family first instilling morals and values, giving guidance and wisdom. He was predeceased by his mother, Alice; grandmother Maude; brothers Billy and Joe; sister Arlene; and his wife, Barbara, whom he missed and longed to be with and is now walking hand in hand together again. He is survived by his sisters, Linda and Kendra; his four children, Terry Seigars, her husband, Daniel Seigars, Scherry Hughes and Allen Stone, Carl Wharton Jr., his wife, Melissa Wharton, and Micheal Wharton, his wife, Jessica Wharton; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who he dearly loved, as well as many relatives and friends. A small private, intimate graveside service will take place at Forest Grove Cemetery in Augusta, with his cousin, John Cummings, officiating the service.
