Obituary of Constance B Allen
BANGOR - Constance B. Allen died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, a Bangor hospital, after a bout with pneumonia. A registered nurse, she would've appreciated the irony in having died at 98.6 years of age. She was born Constance Juanita Beers, Dec. 6, 1914, in Vanceboro, daughter of Thomas and Eurrie (Grass) Beers.
She graduated from Vanceboro High School at age 16. She moved to Bath and graduated from Bath Memorial Hospital's school of nursing in 1937; she also completed a special course of instruction in medical, obstetrics and pediatrics at Boston City Hospital. She continued as a nurse at Bath Memorial Hospital. She married William H. Allen Jr., in 1939, and the couple had their first and only child, William H. "Terry" Allen III, in 1943. The family moved from the Bath area to Frankfort in 1958 and Connie worked at Eastern Maine General Hospital, at nursing homes in Brooks and Belfast, and as a public health nurse in Waldo County. Prior to retiring, she bought a house on Pleasant Bay in Milbridge and worked at a health care facility there. She moved to Bangor in the mid-1980s and lived in Bangor until the time of her death.
She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, five sisters, nieces, nephews and her husband in 2004. She is survived by two brothers and their families, a son and wife, a granddaughter and two great-grandsons. Her family to expresses sincere thanks to Eastern Maine Medical Center nurses, Chris and Adrian; Dr. Claudia Picone; and hospital chaplain, Rex Barrett for their grace and caring during Connie's last moments.
