Obituary of Arlene Louise Wellman
WASHINGTON -- Arlene Louise (Noyes) Wellman, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on July 18, 2013. Arlene was born Oct. 30, 1931, to Raymond Noyes and Louise A. Mosher of Jefferson.
Arlene dedicated her life to serving others. She started working for the Country Manor at the young age of 15 being dropped off by the bus after school. Arlene often was known for taking care of neighborhood children while their parents worked.
She attended Cony High School for three years before leaving to care for her younger siblings. She also landed a position taking care of Gertrude Perry, wife of the owner of the Boston Celtics at the time.
Arlene found her calling and opened Wellman's Boarding Home in Union and retired with 25 years of service without any deficiencies from the state of Maine. She had a great eye for detail and structure often taking her boarders in a station wagon to local lawn sales, out to lunch or attending appointments. She also loved down time with her boarders to work on the local paper's Jumble and crossword puzzles while watching TV game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Arlene went back to school and received her high school diploma with her younger sister Dianne in 1974 from Medomak Valley High School.
She married the love of her life Owen J. Wellman on Dec. 1, 1951, spending many Saturday nights dancing and enjoying one another's company. They had 62 years of beautiful marriage until her passing.
Arlene is survived by her loving husband, Owen J. Wellman; a daughter, Rhonda (Wellman) Shantz, of Tallahassee, Fla.; a son, Ronald Wellman, and his wife Jeanne, of Washington; four grandchildren, Christopher and Heather Carroll, of Tallahassee, Fla., Aaron Wellman and his fiancee, Kristi, of Wiscasset, and Ashley Wellman and her fiance, Earl, of Washington; three sisters, Marion Flanders, of Augusta, Madeline Campbell and her husband, David, of Augusta, Dianne Harrington and her husband, Eddie, of Richmond; six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Gavin, Dominic, Kiana, Raelynn and Ellahna; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
