Obituary of Donald W. Saunders
WALDOBORO - Donald W Saunders, 76, died July 30, 2013, just a few hours before his 77th birthday at his home. He was born July 31, 1936, in Springfield, Mass., and was adopted 18 months later by Edward and Alberta Saunders and raised in Southwick, Mass.
He moved to Vermont in 1956 and worked as a welder, eventually owning his own business. He moved to Maine in 1976 and worked as the plant supervisor for R & R Engineering and Steel-Pro, Rockland. He then owned his own business in Newport, until illness forced his retirement in 1995. He moved back to his home in Waldoboro in 1998 and spent the next 15 years in his woodworking shop and garden. He will be greatly missed for his humor, wisdom and everything else.
He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Amy, in March 1998; and sister, Gwen, in January 2013. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marion; daughter, Janie Hisler and husband, Warren, of Waldoboro; sons, Steven of Grafton, Vt., Michael of Fitzwilliam, N.H., and Stacey Hutchison and wife, Melanie, of Westport Island; grandchildren, Nicole, Sheresea, Chace, Riley, Jarod, Rhiannon and Erik; and great-grandson, Logan. He is also survived by special cousins, Ron and Shirl Jackson of Agawam, Mass. Many thanks to Dr. Hunold, Miles Memorial Hospital, the Cove's Edge skilled nursing unit, and Miles & St. Andrews Home Health & Hospice for guiding us through this difficult time.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
