Obituary of Tom Gsell

DEER ISLE - Tom Gsell, 69, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Tom was born April 2, 1944, in Freeport, N.Y., son of the late Frederick Gsell and Florence (Posner) Daley. Tom was a commercial fisherman for 35 years and owner of Tom's Nursery & Greenhouses in Deer Isle. He was also a part of the printing industry for many years as a pressman and bindery operator and also served his community as a local firechief in South Carolina. Surviving are his wife, Rose (Hunkins) Gsell of Deer Isle; his children, Nicola "Nikki" Kelly and husband, Bill, of Ellsworth, Scott Gsell of Casco, Kathleen "Katie" Gielarowski and husband, Hank, of Lansdowne, Va., T.J. Gsell of Baltimore, Md., Tim Kelley of Folsom, Calif., and Randy Kelley of San Diego; as well as nine grandchildren; sisters, Joan Flachs of Kentucky, Bette Scaringe of Florida, Susan Rooney of New York, and Bonnie Franklin of Virginia; plus many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life and potluck will be held 1 p.m. Aug. 17, at Tom's Nursery in Deer Isle for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to Cancer Care of Maine, Brewer.
