Obituary of Margaret Conway Wolfe

Margaret Conway Wolfe, “Peggy” to family and friends, passed peacefully on August 5, 2013. Born November 15, 1924, to Mary and Henry Conway of Medford, MA, Peggy married the love of her life, W. Brewster Wolfe, MD, on June 12, 1948. They were married for 43 years living most of those years in the Newburgh, NY area before he passed away in 1991. The following years were spent in Naples, FL and Belfast, ME where she passed away. Their children were blessed by Peggy and Brewster’s love for each other and for family. Peggy is survived by ten children: Chris (Anne) of Greenfield, WI; Tim (Stephanie) of Washington, NH; Sharron (Paul) of Warwick, RI; andria of Easthampton, MA; Elisabeth (Michael) of Belfast; ME, Gregory (Barbara) of Easton, MA; Victoria (Selim) of Granite Bay, CA; Brian (Lesle) of New Windsor, NY; Penelope of Belfast, ME; and Pamela of Decatur, TN Peggy is also survived by sisters Claire Baldwin, Sr. Anne Conway and Laurie Druyor. The house would be filled with late-night laughter as the sisters swapped stories and traded childhood memories. Peggy cherished their faithful presence in her life. Peggy loved playing games with her grandchildren who live throughout the U.S.: Julia, Jared (Leigh), Becca (Bob), Tom, Stephen, Trevor, Patrice, Marisa, Elena, Alexander, Mikaela, Kyra, Galen (Stacey), Collin, Isadora (Joe), Emma, Courtney, Caitlin, Phoebe, Mya and Talia. Her great-grandchildren Riley, Rosemary, Muriel, Seachlan, Cordelia, Seamus and Declan will miss out on her meticulous gamesmanship but she mentored many to take her place. Scores of grandchildren, nieces and nephews spent many a day at the Wolfe home in organized chaos amidst gales of laughter, music and song. Peggy is predeceased by brother Matthew and sister Eileen, son Lance Alexander and grandchildren Liam, Brendan, and Shayna. Peggy welcomed others with a warm smile, acute listening skills, and sincere interest - precious gifts. She was a Depression-era child whose Catholic faith and pursuit of education were high priorities throughout her life. She instilled a thirst for learning in her children and cherished a hard-earned college degree from Mt. St. Mary’s College (Newburgh, NY) earned over nearly two decades, a few courses at a time, as she raised her large family. Peggy loved God, family, mysteries, music, the ocean, beach, birds, golf and games too numerous to mention. Her gracious, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation takes place Friday, Aug 9 at 11 am at Brooks Funeral Home at 481 Gidney Avenue with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Mary’s Church (180 South St) at 1:00 pm. Internment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery (5468 Rt 9W). All locations are in Newburgh, NY.
