Obituary of Walter John Skinner
Walter John “Corky” Skinner passed from this earth on Sunday, September 29, 2013, in Jonesport, Maine at the age of 100, after a brief illness. Walter was born on August 2, 1913 to Harry A. and Annie May Belden Skinner in New Rochelle, New York. He was a baker for most of his life, and worked in several bakeries in the Bridgeport, Connecticut area. He was the owner of Caroline’s Bakery on East Main Street in Bridgeport, before retiring to Jonesboro, Maine where he has resided for many years. In his youth, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and he traveled with the World of Mirth Carnival. He also lived in northern California and worked for donut shops in the Vallejo and Napa areas. Walter loved the great outdoors and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting, boating, and camping. He was a loving husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He will be especially remembered for his keen sense of humor and cheerful disposition. Walter was predeceased by his wife Sophie, his son Robert, his brothers Harry, and William, his sisters Dorothy Stone, Mildred Cable and Anna Skinner. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his sister Helen Galog, his daughter Elaine Cimmino and husband Louis, his son James Skinner and wife Barbara, and his son John Skinner and wife Helena. Also, his granddaughters Elizabeth Parker, Christine Sorrentino, Jessica McDougal, Kayla Skinner, his grandson Mathew Skinner, and his great-granddaughters Samantha Sorrentino, Sara Parker and Kaitlyn McDougal and several nephews and nieces In keeping with Walter’s requests there will be no services and burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Jonesboro, Maine, at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sunrise Health Care in Jonesport, Maine for the excellent care that has been given to Walter during his recent illness and for the kind and compassionate care shown to him over the past few years.
