Obituary of Daniel Neil Robbins
TRENTON - Daniel "Big Dan" N. Robbins, 55, of Trenton, passed away Oct. 12, 2013, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth, while surrounded by family. He died after a long battle with heart disease. Dan was born June 9, 1958, in Rockland, the son of Edwin and Theresa Robbins.
He moved to Trenton in the mid-1960s, settling on the Oak Point Road, where he lived for the rest of his life. Dan graduated from Mount Desert Island High School in 1976, and went on to earn a degree in automotive mechanics at Eastern Maine Technical College in Bangor. He later spent more than 20 years driving the Trenton school bus, and he owned a small lawn care and snow removal business. Dan also served with the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years, including time spent as the fire chief. Dan was married to Sherri L. Young for 19 years. She passed away in 2007. He loved spending time with his family and friends, playing volleyball, having cookouts, going camping and, back in the day, participating in fireman musters.
Dan is survived by his son, Daniel E. Robbins and fiancée, Emily, of Trenton; three brothers, Frederick Robbins of Phoenix, Gary Robbins and wife, Diana, of Del Mar, Calif., and Edwin
"Bill" Robbins of Colonial Heights, Va.; four sisters, Penny Lyons and husband, James, of Trenton, Sally Vardamis of Stuart, Fla., Mary Jane Piccirillo and husband, Adam, of Hampden, and Abby Savage of Northeast Harbor; three nieces, Amanda Lyons of Trenton, Laura Lyons Conary of Trenton, and Jennifer LeMoine Turner of Swans Island; and one nephew, Kenny LeMoine of Swans Island. Dan also has a lot of extended family.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Tremont Congregational Church, Tremont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, 59 Oak Point Road, Trenton, ME 04605, in memory of Big Dan.
