Obituary of Noble Smith
HARPSWELL -- Noble Smith, 80, of Harpswell, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta.
He leaves behind his wife, Bertie; his children, Charlotte Smith of Leura, NSW, AU, Alastair Smith of Madison, Conn., and Sarah van der Steur of Chesapeake City, Md.; plus three stepdaughters, Tracy Blair of Belvidere, N.J., Brooke Blair and Paige Levatino of Sparta, N.J. He enjoyed seven grandchildren; and seven step grandchildren. Noble is also survived by his brothers, Michael B. Smith of McLean, Va., and Timothy Smith of Swampscott, Mass.
Noble was born in Marblehead, Mass., on July 21, 1933, the son of Elizabeth Brackett Alsberg and George Noble Ricker of Florida. He attended Marblehead High School and the Governor's Academy. He received a BA degree from Harvard University and a MA degree from University of Pennsylvania. Noble was also a proud Navy Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in 1962.
Noble spent his professional life as a consultant helping nonprofit
organizations with fund raising management challenges, board development and long term development strategies.
