Obituary of Ida M. Bouchard

AUGUSTA - Ida M. Bouchard, 93, of Friendship Drive, Manchester, passed away May 15, 2014, at the Augusta Center for Health & Rehabilitation after a short illness with her family by her side.Ida was born in Augusta on March 2, 1921, daughter of Honore and Azilda Dumas. She was predeceased by her husbands, Francis H. Parent and Alcide R Bouchard, two sisters, Angelina Doyon, Rita Turcotte, and a brother, Francis Dumas all of Augusta. Ida was a communicant of St. Michael's Parish. Ida deployed to Hawaii shortly after Pearl Harbor to be with Francis and while there she worked on damaged ships when they came to port for repairs. After World War II, they returned to Augusta and settled on the Leighton Road. She worked in the Hudson Pulp & Paper Co. for many years and left there to be a caregiver for her mother. After her mother passed away, she went to work at Stephens School in Hallowell as a housemother. When the school was moved to South Portland, she re-located to South Portland and continued to work with disadvantaged youth until her retirement. After retirement, she relocated to Farmingdale. After falling and suffering an injury to her right shoulder, she moved to Manchester and lived with her son, Richard Parent.Over the years, Ida enjoyed doing volunteer work for the church and being a member of The Daughters of Isabella, Les Dames de St. Anne and The Lay Camelot Order. She enjoyed camping, trips to Florida and playing cards with family. Ida is survived by her son, Richard Parent, of Manchester; stepsons Robert Bouchard and his wife, Jeannine, of Farmingdale, and Richard Bouchard and his wife, Patty; her sister, Theresa Beaulieu and her husband, Richard, of Augusta; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Augusta Center of Health & Rehabilitation and especially to her extended family on the Saco Wing. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Pine Tree Camp or Camp Sunshine. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at St. Augustine Church which will be preceded by a saying of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine followed by burial service at the Holy Family Cemetery on the Townsend Road in Augusta.
