Obituary of Grace M. Nagle

WINTERPORT Grace M. Nagle passed away peacefully in Winterport, Maine, Saturday, July 26th, in the care of her beloved niece, Laurie Ann Hall, who was by her side along with Grace’s most devoted friends, Lucy the dog, and Speckles the cat. Grace was born on September 25, 1930 to Robert and Elizabeth Gushee of Appleton Maine. After graduating from Appleton High School in 1948, Grace travelled near and far, often with good friends, and particularly to warm climates. She worked as waitress in many places, from the Samoset in Rockport to the Breakers in West Palm, Florida. Her easy smile contributed to her being nominated as a Sea Goddess contestant in the 1950 Lobster Festival of Rockland, Maine. But no matter where she roamed and how much fun she had, Grace always returned to Appleton in the summertime. Her professional work ranged from being an Arthur Murray dance instructor to retiring from Camden National as a teller. Grace enjoyed creating, from her oil paintings, crocheted dolls and artisan painted rocks to her wardrobe of clothing she designed and stitched. She loved life, family, dancing and her pets. Grace meticulously recorded her family history in many photo albums that are generational treasures. Before becoming ill, Grace spent the last decade of her life in Florida with her long-time friend and companion, Marcel Gill. Grace’s quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Grace was predeceased by her siblings Freeman Gushee; Damon Gushee; Priscilla Gushee Butler; Robert Gushee; Donald Demmons and her only child, Timothy Nagle. She is survived by her “baby brother” David Gushee; her beloved sister-in-law, Barbara Gushee; Sylvia Demmons; and her many nieces and nephews whom she adored. Services will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton on Saturday, August 9th, at 11:00 followed by a celebration of love, laughter and music at Old Town House on Town House Hill Rd, Union In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Grace’s name to the Pope Memorial Humane Society, P. O. Box 1294, Rockland ME 04841 or to Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice, 170 Pleasant Street, Rockland ME 04841. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
