Obituary of Barbara G. Floyd

Barbara (Griedel) Floyd Barbara Griedel Floyd, 84, passed away on Friday, August 8th after a brief illness. She was born on February 11, 1930 in Mather, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Maria Griedel and grew up surrounded by six vivacious and fun-loving brothers and sisters (all of whom preceded her in death). Barbara loved both art and music and treasured the time she spent in her early twenties in New York City and Washington DC where she was able to immerse herself in both. It was in DC that she met her beloved husband, Renworth Floyd. They were married in 1966 and lived in many cities throughout the country before finally settling in Maine. Barbara grew to love Maine as much as her husband did and even after his untimely death in 1982 she continued to live here and raise her three children. For many years, Barbara worked in the Belfast School District and enjoyed both her co-workers and the many children that she taught throughout the years. Barbara was a devout member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church and her faith was a very important part of her life. Upon her retirement, she spent a lot of time volunteering with the church where she mad many wonderful friends. We will miss Barbara’s laughter, quick wit, kindness and generosity. She is survived by her three children, Sean, Maria (Michael) and Rennie (Elizabeth), three grandchildren (Miles, Will and Renworth III), brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to St. Francis of Assisi 81 Court Street, Belfast, Maine 04915
