Obituary of Reginald Mitchell

REGINALD MITCHELL, 70 of Monroe, passed away October 6, 2014 in Bangor. He was born in Union, Maine on May 14, 1944 the son of Alwood True Mitchell Sr. and Ida Rachel (Williams) Mitchell. He grew up in Appleton and Searsmont. He loved hunting on Appleton Ridge most of all. In 1960, Gram, Rachel and Al moved to Monroe and Dad lived with his grandparents in North Waldoboro until his graduation in 1962 from Appleton High School. He joined Gram in Monroe where they raised chickens until 1964 when they bought Monroe General Store. He worked as a longshoreman on the Searsport Docks as well. He provided service to his fellows and community as Town Constable, a member of Monroe Lions Club and served as Fire Chief from 1977 to 1986. In 1982 they sold the store, and he went to work for the Dysart family. He hauled fuel for seven years, then started at Cold Brook Energy in 1989 where he worked at the time of his death. As a dedicated Father, Son, Brother and friend, he spent his entire life touching the lives of others in service, leadership and support without hesitation. When the various calls to service came, Dad went. Together with his wife of 20 years and mother of his children, he instilled a Family First belief system, he leaves behind a lifetime legacy of fundamental family values, honor, generosity, integrity, respect, and most of all, humor. Amidst multiple employment, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, aggressive cribbage, practical joking, bowling, and was an all around lover of Mother nature with all of its raw landscape and wildlife. As a strong and passionate swimmer, he enjoyed water play with his children and was quick to challenge any daring soul to a race across Swan Lake and back. Reginald was predeceased by his parents; a sister Rachel E Oxley and brother Alwood T. Mitchell Jr. He is survived by his children, Aaron Mitchell of Brooks, Kimberly Mitchell of Monroe, Kirk Mitchell and significant other Nora Proulx of Bucksport and their mother Sally Philbrick of Monroe; step-children Erika Sawyer and husband Mark of Newport, Christopher Burbello of Frankfort and their children; brother-in-law Walter O. Oxley of Etna; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Bill Chapman, Randy Higgins and his entire Dysart Family. Family and friends are invited to call from 1-3 p.m. on October 12 at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast followed by a reception at the Odd Fellows Hall in Monroe.
