Obituary of Alice Kirby Wickson
SOUTH PARIS
Alice June (Kirby) Wickson, meine muttie ,flew away on November 8th at the age of eighty eight. She attended Massachusetts School of Art before it became a college, after being turned down to attend Yale. She always said she wished she had kept her letter of declination.
Alice crewed for her then husband to be on a Star boat out of Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop, MA.
She enjoyed fishing on Sebago Lake and ice fishing, knitting in American and Swiss style. Alice was an avid gardener, loved antiques and yard sales and was quite the cook. Holidays haven’t been the same without her baked goods. She was an entrepreneur in the Flea Market at Derry NH, selling her antiques and famous baked beans and brown bread.
Alice was the past president of Western Maine Art Group. She served on the board at Jordan Marsh for purchasing clothing in the Woman’s Department in South Portland, ME.
After her husband passed and her children were raised she began her painting career in earnest. Mom loved plein-air painting, no matter the weather. She loved to go to Monhegan Island to paint as well.
She is survived by her four children, Susan C. Wickson, Katherine C. Wickson, Robert E. Wickson and his life partner Robert McDougal and Andrew T. Wickson; two grandchildren Cyrus R. Haggerty and his wife Jenine, Travis J. Haggerty and his wife Jessica and five great grandchildren.
