Obituary of Ronald R. Welt
Ronald R. Welt passed away December 4,2014 at his daughter's home in Northport at only 62 years old after a quick but fierce battle with cancer.
He was born on March 26, 1952 in Rockport, the son of Donald and Alice Welt.
Ron was a 1970 graduate of Camden Rockport High School and after graduating remained in the Camden-Rockport area until his death. Ron, by most standards, enjoyed a lengthy and highly successful golf career, beginning at the age of 6. His self-taught ability to work magic with his clubs, made him one of the Mid-coast's finest golfers. Among the many of his golf highlights are his two holes-in-one, which he achieved at Goose River - his home away from home: the first on July 8,1975 with a 3-Wood on the 235-yard 16th hole; and the second was on May 1,1990 with a 9-iron on the 151-yard 6th hole. Ron won the Goose River Golf Club gross championship in 1978 and 1979 and was the runner-up in 1985 and 1990. He also teamed with his good friend Shane Grindle of Rockland to win Goose River's club two-ball gross title in 1989 and 1990. The duo won the tourney's net title in 1989. He tried never to set goals when he played but only to play the best that he could and just love the game. He especially enjoyed teaching and watching his son, who also grew up learning to love and enjoy the game as well. The two would play together
often. Most recently, he also enjoyed watching and teaching his grandson
Max, who has come to love the game as well and is becoming quite the skilled golfer. Outside of golf he enjoyed watching the latest movies and whistling to his favorite tunes and spending time with his family.
He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Shirley Work.
Ron is survived by his three loving children and seven grandchildren:
Kimberly Metcalf and husband Jim of Northport and their two daughters, Anna and Maggie; Kristopher Welt and wife Jessica of Hope, and their three sons Benjamin, Joah, and Max; and Kate Clearwater and husband Andrew of Brunswick and their two sons, Donovan and Nolan. He is also survived by, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. According to Ron's wishes, a private memorial will be held for family members only at the convenience of the family. At Ron's request please make any gifts or donations to the youth scholarship program at Goose River Golf Course. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home Belfast, ME.
