A. Elisabeth Lutes Derbach, 85, of Augusta, died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Dec. 11, 2014.
She was born in Boston, Mass. on Nov. 04, 1929, and grew up in Lincoln. She had a long career in nursing and education. While employed in nursing, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Education degree at the University of Maine in Orono.
She served as Assistant Executive Director of the Maine State Board of Nursing from 1971 to 1978. She retired at the age of 74 after working for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services as a State of Maine Health Services Consultant from 1986 to 2004.
Her interests included politics, religions, the arts and music. She was loved and respected by many.
She was predeceased by her husband Clifford. R. Lutes Jr. in 1955. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Lutes of Millbury, Mass.; her son Clifford Lutes and his wife Roxanna, Winthrop; her grandchildren Micah Lutes of Augusta, Benjamin Anderson of Berlin, Germany, Sharon (Lutes) Mantsch and husband Micah, and her great-granddaughter Molly of Waterville. She is also survived by her sister, Josephine Pete of Lincoln.
She was blessed to have most excellent care from people at Maine General Health Reach Hospice. A Memorial service will be held at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 20 Union St., Hallowell, on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at 1:30 p.m.
