Obituary of Blaine Brian Woodbury
Blaine Brian Woodbury, 60, passed away unexpectedly December 26th, 2014. He was born April 26, 1954 in Bangor, Maine, the son of Blaine and Nellie (Jackson) Woodbury.
Brian graduated from Belfast Area High School in 1972. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1974 from the Forestry Department. On February 4th, 1976 he married the love of his life, Cheryl Thibodeau. They built their home and raised their family in Morrill. He worked at the University of Maine for approximately two years as a technician in the Forestry Department. His love of the outdoors and forestry brought him to the Maine Forest Service where he worked as a Forest Ranger in Canada Falls and Union Maine. He also enjoyed teaching agriculture at the Waldo County Technical Institute. He was later able to combine his love of the outdoors and his love of agriculture in a 23 year career with the USDA as a conservationist, retiring in 2011. While building his career he continued to be a devoted farmer and alongside his father and his wife on the family dairy farm in Morrill. He was a member of the Quantabacook Lodge in Searsmont. He was a member of the Morrill Baptist Church and had a strong, personal faith in God.
In his retirement, Brian enjoyed time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. In fact, on the day he passed he had just spent lunch teasing his grandchildren and playing his guitar for them. He was an impressive, self-taught, musician, being able to play almost any instrument; his favorite being the guitar, especially playing with friends and family. He continued to enjoy his love of the outdoors. This past year he worked very hard to become healthy so that he could comfortably enjoy outside and work the land. He loved working in the woods with his son, James, of whom he was so proud.
Brian was a very intelligent and witty man. Due to his vast knowledge on so many topics and his helpful nature, Brian was the "go to guy" for help and advice on almost any project. He was an incredible storyteller, always drawing people in to hear his humorous recounts that always included his infectious laugh. This past Christmas Day was no different. Brian had his family around him at the dinner table in laughter recalling a recent story. He will be greatly missed by any and all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cheryl Woodbury; his son James Woodbury and wife Jamie of Morrill; his cherished grandchildren, Owen, Oralee and Opal Woodbury; his mother Nellie Woodbury of Morrill, his brother Kerry Woodbury and wife Pat of Dedham, his sister-in-law Faith Woodbury of Manheim, PA; Father and mother-in law Ray and Rose Thibodeau of Bradley; brother and sister-in-law Steve and Dale Thibodeau of Bangor, Bruce and Lynne Thibodeau of NH and Sondra Thibodeau and Chris Benette of Bradley, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and so many close friends. A celebration of Brian's life will be held at the Morrill Baptist Church on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015, at 10am. with Pastor Jim Culbertson officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit with family and share in refreshments following the service.
