Obituary of Leslie Lamont Rolerson
ISLESBORO, MAINE Leslie Lamont Rolerson, Jr, 84, died unexpectedly on January 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. An Island native, he was born on June 14, 1930.
Lamont was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
He was a Korean War Navy veteran, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CV-34.)
Lamont (or “Mont” as he was fondly known) is survived by his wife of 63 years, the love of his life, Ruby Amogene Rolerson (Williams); children Leslie Lamont “Ace” Rolerson, III, and his wife Diane; Jessica Rolerson Oldham and her husband, John; grandchildren Natalie Louise Oldham, of Camden, Maine, and Andrea Cross (Rolerson) and her husband, Caleb Cross, of Knox, Maine; great grandson, Ezra Charles Alan Oldham; and his beloved cat, Spike. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Ella Grinnell, of Rockport, Maine, and Nellie Coombs, of Islesboro, Maine, and many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie Lamont “Doo” Rolerson and Anne Jones Rolerson, as well as his brothers John, David and Jesse.
The family wishes to thank the special caregivers at Pen Bay Medical Center, Maine Medical Center (R3), and the Islesboro Health Center. Many thanks to Boardman Cottage and the caring staff who made it possible for Lamont to be reunited with his family and friends on Islesboro during his final days. His Boardman Cottage Christmas was a special moment.
Lamont was known for his generosity and capturing Island life via thousands of pictures. He was famous for his Toll House cookies, which he made by the dozens, passing them out to friends and strangers, alike.
He maintained his own business, Lamont’s Fuel Service, and kept island families warm for many years with his deliveries.
His happiest days were those on his motorcycle or behind the steering wheel of a truck, especially “his” Western Star dump truck. He loved music, dancing and playing pool.
A Celebration of Life honoring Lamont will be held on Sunday, January 25, at the Islesboro Sporting Club, beginning at 12 noon. Please join family and friends in sharing Lamont’s favorite foods, music and pictures.
