Obituary of Frank W. Holt

FRANK W. HOLT SR., 85, passed away January 14, 2015 in Pittsfield, Maine. He was born in Clinton, Maine on September 3, 1929 to Abbie (Crummett) Holt and Elwin Charles lHolt Sr. Frank was one of nine children, Alice Holt who passed at one month old, Ralph Holt who passed at the age of 14, Rose Judkins, Ila L. Ackilli, Bernice Tuttle, Elwin C. Holt Sr. and Howard Kenith Holt. He is survived by his five children, Ila Libby, Ann Holt, Frank W. Holt Jr., Leroy Holt and a step-son Ezra Holt; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and wife Vesta (Thompson) Holt. Frank quit school at 16 and went to work at the Diamond National in Oakland until hle was 21 when he enlisted in the Army in 1950. He was in Okinawa for two years, two months and 22 days. After returning home, he met and married his first wife and mother of his children, Arlene Frances Brown on June 15, 1953. they were married for 39 years. Arlene died in a car accident in 1993. He worked for the Norwock Shoe Company until he and Arlene became self-employed as custom butchers, building a USDA Meat Plant until he retired in 1990. In his spare time he joined The Joseph r. Sanford VFW Post #3198 in 1969 where he served as Junior Vice-Commander in 1970 and lifetime member, Commander in 1971 and served on all the Chairs for District 5 as well as State Surgeon for two years. Frank enjoyed cribbage and was in many tournaments along with teaching his granddaughters how to play chess on the weekends when they were little. He also loved bowling and was on many bowling leagues. Later Frank enjoyed the Pittsfield Seniors Club where he met Vesta Thompson. After several years of companionship, they married August 27, 2007 at the Lutheran Church of Resurrection in Waterville, Maine where they attended. They lived together in Pittsfield where he passed.
