Obituary of Margaret Peg Worth

Margaret Page Worth of Belfast died on January 15, 2015, in the presence of loving family and friends. At the time of her death, Peg was in a peaceful, elegant and easy presence of mind. We believe she gained inspiration that day from the artwork, flowers and music that filled her home. Peg was born on August 7, 1948, in Sendai, Japan, the first child of the late Lt. Col. William J. Worth, U.S.A., and the late Mary Page Schwarzwaelder Worth. With her Army family, she lived in Vietnam and Germany, and all over the U.S. Peg attended finishing school in Garmisch, Germany, and then graduated from Heidelberg, Germany, High School. She maintained a warm group of friends from her graduating class. After high school, when her family returned to the States and their next assignment, Peg remained behind on her own and toured Germany as the lead singer in a swing jazz band. She was adventurous and spontaneous, and a life-long learner. Peg worked as a realtor, and imaginatively matched people with homes in coastal Maine for many years. She was a talented artist, most recently in pastels. Peg had many interests and skills: cooking for guests, her flower and vegetable gardens, interior design, jewelry making, and music. Most of all, she loved her community in Belfast. Peg leaves behind her daughter and her partner, Liza Joy Marcato and Megan Bennett of Hillsdale, NY, and her son and his partner, John David Marcato and Michelle Kiely of Marina del Ray, CA. She is also survived by her brother William N. Worth and his wife Barbara Worth of Chelan, Oregon, her brother John D. Worth and his wife Patricia Worth of Belfast, ME, nephews Nathan Worth and his wife Lauren Worth of Eugene, OR, and Jonathan Worth and his wife Stephanie Worth of Chicago, nieces Kate Coluccio and her husband Chad Coluccio of Newport Beach, CA and Emily Sampson and her husband Corey Sampson of Topsham, ME, four great-nieces and two great- nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Carol Kelly of the Christian Community, on Monday, January 19, 2015, at 10 a.m., at The First Church in Belfast, United Church of Christ, Church Street, Belfast, ME. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation in support of a park bench fund or scholarship fund to Michael Cunning, Worth Real Estate, PO Box 273, Belfast ME 04915.
