Obituary of Joan Ruth Seekins

Joan Ruth Seekins Palermo – Joan passed with peace and grace on March 2, 2015 with her family by her side. She was born in 1934, the daughter of Frederick C. and Eva B. (Evans) Moody. She was married to the love of her life Pearley B. Seekins for 60 wonderful years until his passing in 2013. She raised her 5 children in her home/nest in Searsport. She is survived by her children Regienna and Joseph Grant, Frederick and Patsy Seekins, Stuart Seekins, Norma Seekins, Joanna and Timothy Davis. Her much beloved grandchildren Joseph and Michelle Grant, Rachel and Jeff Taker, Mark and Ashley Taylor, Megan Seekins, Charles Seekins, Justin Davis, Joshua Seekins, Talan Davis, Jeffrey Cooley, and Great Grand children: Dawn Rush, Tristan Shute, Jessica Grant, Payge Shute, Taylor Shute, Grant Taker, Zachary Taylor, Travis Taylor, Caden Cooley. Her siblings and their spouses are: Lucy and Frank Whiting, Jerry Moody, Gloria and Ralph Hall, Raymond and Cindy Moody, Rhonda and Frederick Hutchins, Ronald Moody. Joan found joy in the laughter and energy of children. She was Mom and Mammie to many who came through her doors; she welcomed them lovingly into the family. Especially cherished was Ailean Seekins, Kassi and Kristi Reyes, Maddy Spencer, Taryn Love and the 4 J’s, – all were family is her eyes. She had many treasured nieces and nephews who spent their childhoods making memories in the Seekins home. She found particular comfort in having her special pug friends Pilot and Penny at her side. Joan was first and foremost a Wife, Mother, a Mammie, a sister and a friend. She made us all laugh by her feisty and often teasing humor. Joan attended Searsport District High School. She made her career taking care of the elderly in nursing facilities and Home care throughout Waldo County and Florida. She loved her work and caring for others. She always made her clients comfortable and happy through her quick wit and her loving, gentle nature. She was a member of the North Searsport United Methodist Church and the North Searsport Christian Ladies Club. She and her husband Pearley moved to Richland Florida to become snow birds and to spend their retirement in warm weather. Returning home to Maine due to illness; she was content as she knew that her favorite pastime, shopping at Wally World and eating chocolate, could be done anywhere. The family appreciates the wonderful care and support given to her by the Maine General Hospice of Maine workers as she battled Mesothelioma and special caretaker Mary Reed. A private service will be held in the spring.
