Obituary of John A. Thomas

John A Thomas,"Jack", of Belfast Maine, passed away peacefully at home with his dedicated and loving wife by his side on March 5, 2015. He was born January, 2, 1931 to Anna and John Thomas of Middleboro MA where he grew up. Jack spent his early career in law enforcement as Chief of Police in Francestown NH and a state police officer on Cape Cod where he was an accomplished pistol marksman. He was a successful sales manager in the paper industry having a career spanning 45 years with companies such as S D Warren, Willamette Industries, Weyerhaeuser Corp and Domtar. He was an avid alpine ski enthusiast and a racing coach at Crotched Mountain in NH for his daughter Meg Thomas, a former state champion, and son Sean Thomas, a former Junior Olympian, who now coaches ski racing at Aspen Mountain in Colorado. An accomplished musician, Jack played guitar and keyboards for various country and western bands throughout NH and MA, performing on radio and television and on stage. He loved boating on Lake Winnipesaukee with his wife and friends and spending time with his children and seven grandchildren to whom he passed on his love of sports. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, former NH State Treasurer, Georgie A Thomas. He reluctantly leaves behind four children and their families: Jack and Suzanne Thomas of Campton NH; Maryann Kiendl of Jamestown NY; Janet Meg Thomas of Concord NH; and Sean and Peggy Thomas of Glenwood Springs CO. Additionally he leaves a brother Daniel Thomas of Bourne MA and several nieces and cousins. He will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him. The family will receive friends at the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave, Belfast on March 13, 2015 from 5 to 7 pm.
