Obituary of Bernard Chandler

BERNARD D. CHANDLER, 92 OF Belfast, passed away March 21, 2015 in Augusta. He was born May 6, 1922 in South Boston, Massachusetts to Rosco and Mary (Manning) Chandler. He grew up in a lighthouse in Blue Hill, ME... Bernard joined the Navy before moving to Connecticut in the early 50s where he worked at Pratt & Whitney, Republican Steel, and then Blue Sunoco Station, which he owned with his brother Joseph. Moving to Maine in the early 60s, he became owner and operator of Bay Motel in Belfast, currently known as Fireside Inn. Bernard is predeceased by his wife Emily in 1996; his grandsons, Wayne Arthur Wescott and Bernard “Biff” Chandler, Scott Nelson Riley; and 7 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his children, Judy A. Chandler of Frankfort, Bruce W. Chandler (Sheila) of Swanville, Rosemary DeMerchant (Blake) of Windsor, Betty Larrabee of Belfast, Bernie Chandler of Spotsylvania; grandchildren Joel Wescott, Bruce, Mark and Jason Chandler, Tish Coon and Eric, and Justin Pomeroy, Chad DeMerchant, Beth Thompson, Matthew Chandler; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as the family dogs Rocco and Mattie. A celebration of life with Rev. Ken Davenport officiating will be held April 25 at 11 at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
