Obituary of Jason Michael Brawn

Jason Michael Brawn, 46, of Westbrook passed away at the Maine Medical Center in Portland on Tuesday August 11. Jason was born on August 28, 1968 in Millinocket, Maine. He grew up in Cape Elizabeth and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School and the University of New Hampshire. He was very proud to have recently earned his MBA from Northeastern University. He worked for many years at Howell Limited, starting out as a graphic designer and ultimately becoming the studio manager. His artistic talents were also evident in other ventures, including mosaic crafts, famous duct-tape designs and logo and graphics work for his sister’s scallop business. Jason had many unique talents and accomplishments: he was the first Junior Champion of MPBN’s So You Think You Know Maine; he was a gourmet cook and mixologist, he could quote Dynasty’s Alexis Carrington verbatim (any episode!) and had several complete sets of Charlie’s Angels and Star Wars Cards, some of which made their way into his highly-sought-after duct tape crafts. Always seeking adventure, Jason lived in Japan and San Francisco before ultimately returning home to Maine to be close to family and friends. Jason tried to live by his father’s motto “you’re not here for a long time – you’re here for a good time”. His positive energy and happy go lucky attitude made him the hit of the party. His outlandish, irreverent personality spread joy and laughter to all around him. A friend recently described him as a “shining disco ball of a person” and his spontaneous eruptions of dance moves often brought friends to tears. His impressions were legendary: he could bring silver screen divas back from the dead and anyone lucky enough to have heard his renditions of Cher or Tom Jones favorites will never be the same. Why, why, why Delilah indeed… Jason successfully performed the Heimlich Maneuver last year to save someone’s life and his family would like to thank the many people at Hills Beach and Maine Medical Center who tried to do the same for him, but “Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you” is another of his father’s sayings Jason occasionally quoted, and in this case, the bear ate well. Screw you bear. Jason’s family is touched by the hundreds of Facebook condolences from people grieving the loss of his quick wit and sparkling personality. He will be missed by many people who shared his adventurous, spirited life, including his parents Peter and Pat Brawn of Cape Elizabeth; his partner Michael Maiweski of Eliot, his sister Kristin (Togue) Brawn of Bath, aunts and uncles including Vicki and Thomas Mullen, Paul and Janice Brawn, Martha and Michael Fasulo, William Langis, Roland and Amanda Moore, many cousins and countless friends. Jason’s mother, father and sister feel blessed to have had him in their lives for 46 years. An upbeat celebration of Jason’s vivacious life will be held at J’s Oyster on August 28, which would have been his 47th birthday.
