Obituary of Zoe Calder
BELFAST - Zoe Calder, 77, of Belfast, passed away at her home on September 7, 2015. Born on March 13, 1938 in Ohio, Zoe was a well-known and respected teacher and writer for most of her adult life. She taught every grade from Kindergarten to college, finishing up her teaching career at Unity College, Thomas College and Eastern Maine Community College. She never met a student she didn't love. As a writer, her poems, articles and stories have been published in magazines and newspapers across the country.
Ms. Calder traveled and lived all over America and spent many years in New York and Connecticut before moving in 1993 to Maine, her favorite state. She loved nature and most days would find her hiking in it, learning about birds and flowers and making her own herbal medicine.
Never having had a family of her own from the age of 3, Ms. Calder came to feel a kinship with the whole human race. She has said, "I've never met a person who didn't have something to love about them."
Those who wish to honor and remember Ms. Calder are invited to visit Moose Point State Park, a place dear to her heart, relish the beauty, spread some good energy there and put an extra dollar in the slot.
Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com.
