Obituary of Roger L. Beghtol
Roger Lee Beghtol, 79, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away in a car accident while vacationing in Bar Harbor, ME on September 15, 2015. Roger was born in Macomb, IL on March 15, 1936, the only child of William and Reva Clayton Beghtol. Roger graduated from Western Illinois University and the University of Iowa with BS and MS degrees in Education. He also received a Specialist Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Western Illinois.
Roger spent 40 years as a teacher and guidance counselor at Davenport High and West High Schools in Davenport, IA.
In 1991, Roger married Sally Hetland. In 1998, Roger and Sally retired to Hendersonville, NC. They have enjoyed many years of mountain scenery and travel including all 50 states and numerous countries. Roger was known for his willingness to serve on multiple committees both for his community, Carriage Park, and he and Sally’s church, Trinity Presbyterian. Roger was well known for his love of photography. Grandchildren were one of his favorite subjects, closely followed by travel, landscape and nature photos. He was also the main photographer for Carriage Park, documenting events and new resident pictures. Watching and attending sporting events was a favorite past-time, especially those that may include a University of Iowa or Carolina team.
Survivors include his wife, Sally. Sons Jim and Bob, Jim’s wife Michele, grandchildren Josh, Morgan and Kate and Sally’s daughter Kim, son-in-law Russ and grandson, Jack.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 900 Blythe St, Hendersonville, NC. A Celebration of Life will be held following the memorial at Roger and Sally’s home, 1404 Woodsong Drive, Hendersonville, NC, 28791.

While Roger’s death was sudden and tragic, we are grateful he was enjoying his favorite passions of travel and photography at the time of the accident.
